And the Golden Globe goes to…

The Winner of the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature is..

Frozen!

OK, not a major shock for anyone. Congratulations none-the-less to Disney for beating other nominees The Croods and Despicable Me 2.

Will Frozen take the Oscar for Best Animated Film too?

They’re finally back! In the full trailer for the long-awaited sequel to Dreamworks’s How to Train Your Dragon, Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless are working as a team as the island of Berk has made peace with their local dragons, even starting a fun new contact sport. Their explorations lead to the discovery of a mysterious new character - the enigmatic Dragon Rider (Cate Blanchett), while the island becomes threatened by the arrival of dragon trapper Eret (Game of Thrones’s Kit Harington).

(There’s a mother of dragons and a gravelly voiced Jon Snow you guys I’m excited.)

Tumblr HTTYD fans (and there are quite a few) should head to the official site if they haven’t already - they’ve launched the official teaser trailer, a bunch of news and some pretty cool downloads.

Short Film… Saturdays? Sundays? Tuesdays?

It’s occurred to me that I don’t post enough about animated shorts, aside from the odd Disney or Pixar. Which is a shame, because some of the best work in animation is done in short form.

So I’m thinking of making this a regular feature… hunting down awesome films and posting them here. Sounds like a plan? What should I look for? And which day sounds best phonetically?

Frozen is out NOW!

Three reasons to see Frozen this weekend:

- It’s already HUGE in the US, smashing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’s Thanksgiving holiday record
- It’s been called one of the best Disney movies in years
- It’s the first Disney animated film to be about two women

It genuinely seems much better than what the lackluster trailer suggested, so I might see you there…

Free Birds Trailer

This family film, out in the US already, was simply not on my radar until I saw a televised trailer. I honestly feel no guilt in dismissing it as an American producer’s rip-off of the wonderful Chicken Run, served up rushed for Thanksgiving, with the leftovers handed over to the UK, cold, in the lead up to Christmas.

UK Release Date: 29 November 2013
US Release Date: 01 November 2013

Director: Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!)
Cast: Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler
